Job Advert Content
The success or failure of your advert depends on how your advert appeals to potential employees. Applicants with the correct experience and qualifications have a choice of employer.
Time spent producing a quality advert will help attract more applicants to your job. If you placing a featured advert please ensure you include a good quality logo and a job specific photograph to help us promote your job out to more applicants via social media.
We have split the advert template in to three zones it is important to consider each zone individually.
Section 1. About The Company
- About the company
- History
- Professional Memberships
- Company Size
- Client Base
- location
Give potential applicants confidence in your company include information about how long you have been established what accredited or professional memberships you hold, the size of the company and type of clients you work with private or commercial. Company policy regarding ongoing education and training and finally what geographical locations you cover.
Section 2. About The Job
- About the job
- Duties
- Career Potential
- Benefits Package
- Salary*
Describe the role you are looking to fulfil and highlight anticipated duties. Do not focus on the mundane parts of the job everyone knows they exist but you don’t want to focus applicants on these areas the term “Other duties” should cover these quite adequately.
If there is future potential to progress with the company mention it here.
Describe what you are offering an applicant. Items you could include might be, supplied P.P.E, corporate clothing, ongoing training, career development, health care, holidays and transport all of which can help the appeal of your vacancy.
*Salary, the absolutely ideal candidate for your role may be on slightly more money than you are currently offering, do you want to hear from them? Then do not quote a salary, use the term “Salary based on qualifications and experience”. Salary’s within the industry vary hugely our job is to put you in communication with potential employees allowing you to start negotiations, you cannot negotiate without applicants.
Multiple job roles, we have no issue with an advert seeking multiple applicants for the same role e.g. ten climber positions but we do not allow adverts covering multiple roles. A single advert recruiting ground staff, team leaders and managers will be amended to promote just one job type whilst in moderation as they are simply not viable. Hortejobs allows applicants to search by specific job roles so multiple positions listed under one role will be missed. Qualifications experience will also be completely different and the advert will become confusing to any potential applicant.
Please do not include your contact details in any advert, direct emails go astray and phone calls can be missed and you could lose that potential applicant. Let applicants use the "APPLY" service. Every application will be forwarded to you immediately and is also recorded against the job in “Job Listings” so you never lose the contact information.
In job listings you can also review the adverts performance. If you have a high number of views but no applications you may need to review and amend the advert content. This can be done at any time by clicking on the “Amend Advert” button. Please try to limit the number of amendments you make as we need to moderate and approve every one before it goes live.
Section 3. Skills Required
- Skills required
- Education
- Qualifications
- Experience
Detail what you are seeking from the applicant. Consider that the higher you set the bar the less applications you will recive. We would recommend casting your net as wide as possible then review and prioritise the applications. Remember you can always decline an application, we do ask clients to respond to every applicant it's simply good manners.
Avoid any terms using the phrase "Must have" replace it with terms like "Ideally would have" and “Preference given to applicants with …..” these terms allows for some deviation from your perfect candidate and we hope will result in more applications.
Please remember it is your duty to ensure your advert meets current employment law and regulations to avoid any legal issues we recommend you review this before placing any advert.
Arbsites Ltd makes no representations or warranties in relation to employment offered or information provided by advertiser's. It is the applicant’s duty to fully investigate any company and agree terms before accepting employment.
